Which are your favorite/least favorite zones for leveling?

32 posts in this topic

I really enjoy 1-and-done zones like Un'Goro and Hinterlands. Also, they're both "out of the way" of crowded areas. Makes the questing easier and the gameplay more relaxing.

STV is cute as horde with the extra FP but definitely not as Alliance. Other zones where you do 2-3 quests then come back two days later three times in a row is kind of annoying like Tanaris.

Ashenvale is the worst zone in the game because of its terrain. In order to go north, for example, you have to go south-east, then do some loops and circles, then west, then south. 10 minutes later you finally get to go the direction you desire.

I absolutely loved The Barrens before Barrens Chat died. It was just so amusing to me and made the leveling experience just better and less boring. The place I hated the most was probably Desolace, though I can't say I really hate it too much.

My favorite has to be Winterspring. The music and the hole look of the zone feel so cozy and relaxing. Second favorite has to be Elwynn forest for obvious reasons :D and the Barrens,  again for obvious reasons.  My least favorite has to be all of the scourged zones in northern lordaeron (the hole ambience and feel of those zones creep me out sometimes).

Ooh! Loch Modan! Hands down!

The level pacing of the questlines are horrendous. You have to leave and come back to be able to get the next set of quests like four times (to where? WESTFALL). Bingles's fucking missing supplies. "LFG Mercenaries WANTED: Chok'sul". Troggs that heal, lightning bolt, and spawn directly on top of you inside caves, with only more of them waiting outside (already respawned). Enraging troggs. Escort missions. Snooty blood elves. Timed quests! Spiders!

But I love it. It's a beautiful zone with beautiful music and beautiful dwarves. It teaches you all the lessons you need - the hard way. And if it gets to you, you can always just step back and enjoy the comfiest fishing in Azeroth.

Least favourite's gotta be Stonetalon. Completely terrible in all ways. I wish it was more Deadwind Pass-y. As in, you just pass through. Maybe some quests to take you there, but none to keep you there.

Might as well be named "The Big Alliance Honour Farm Chokepoint" or "The Grand Corridor of Spirit Breaking so You Actually Look Forward to Desolace."

desolace is pretty sweet though.

I found Desolace pretty boring and... desolate. Didn't mind other "desert" type areas. The two centaur clans quest chain is the only memorable bit. Darkshore has great atmosphere but as others said its layout is pretty bad so that spoiled it for me.

For me, the "hot" PVP zones like STV and Hillsbrad are actually kind of fun. Always looking over your shoulder to see if you're being chased. Ganking that dude who fucked you up 20 minutes ago. Traveling in safety with a lvl 60 ally or shrugging and hearthing out because the ?? enemy won't stop camping Nessingwary lol.

Duskwood is probably my favorite for PVE content. Good atmosphere and storyline, and roaming elites that will fuck your shit up. I wish plaguelands was a little more like this, they felt bland and grind-y in comparison.

Loch Modan is great, especially when you're just started to get tired of EVERYTHING IS SNOW! POLAR BEARS ICE TROLLS SNOW SNOW SNOW. Dwarven inns always felt warm and cozy. :)

edit: I liked Un'goro but I think  I burned myself out from grinding there on Nostalrius. Will probably avoid it next time.

Choosing from starting zones, I just love Westfall and Duskwood - can't ever resist leveling there on any of my toons. The music, the quests and overall atmosphere is just pefect for me.

High level zones? Eastern and Western Plaguelands hands down. Not only they're great if you're into spooky-scary, but these are probably the most lore-heavy zones in the entire game. Quests can be a bit meh here and there, but the general lingering grim feeling of desperation and sadness makes up for it.

Bloody hate Blasted Lands though, this place is just one huge pain.

Speaking of Duskwood... don't you just love it when this guy sneaks behind your back and chops you in half?
